CD is 2.5 stars I suppose this CD was doomed to be hated by me from the start. I normally HATE all-out trance compilations, and sadly, Vibrations of Light and Sound is almost as cheesily-trancy as they come. In my opinion, this type of sound should have died off more quickly than it did. Progressive has been more of a friend to Noel Sanger than trance anyway, both in terms of compliations and musical productions. The mixing is decent. Noel doesn't essentially enhance the tracks, but he doesn't do anything to ruin them either. That said, a fair portion of the tracks Noel has put on this set are just so inherently cliché that it really makes the set feel unoriginal, and even a little stupid. The beginning track was just too soft and too short to be of any significance to the set. Up until the inclusion of "No Greater Love," all the tracks seem to be trying to 'elevate' the set to the next level. Some of tracks here are OK in parts, but the buildup feels too slow. Surprisingly, "No Greater Love" turns out to be one this sets highlights, mostly due to Noel's neat reconstruction of the track. From this point down, nearly every track is predictably repetitive to the point of being silly. Noel's trancy productions are hardly any better than the other trancy numbers he surrounds them with. Such is the world of all-out trance, my guess is. If only Vibrations of Light and Sound had been a more restrained set, it could have proven to be at least a decent listen. Sure such trancy sounds can feel good, but it can you feel silly after a while. Luckily, it's almost certain that Noel has matured greatly since the years of those cheesy trance sounds. His future compilation (we're waaaaaaaiiiiiiitiiiiiing Noel) should be totally sweet!
