Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This show was the fourth-to-last gig in the mammoth 2000 world tour, and they had just one more city to cover (Boise, ID the next night), before wrapping things up triumphantly with two nights at home in Seattle. All four of these shows display the band wrapping up the tour in style, forgetting how tired they were after such a long, grueling road trip, and delivering the goods in a final blaze of glory. This particular show in Portland is not one of the most amazing in the bootleg series, but it is well above average. The band is happy and rarin' to go, and each of the band members delivers a flawless performance, despite Stone Gossard's intermittently dying amp in "Hail Hail" and "Dissident." Highlights include rare takes on the rollicking "Evacuation," the goofy "Leatherman," and the fragile "Nothingman." A so-called "Improv" appears in the encore, which to me sounds very structured and rehearsed, but it's an interesting moment regardless. This night's renditions of "Porch" and "Rearviewmirror" (closing the first and second sets, respectively) are especially strong. Eddie Vedder is feeling even more political than usual, lambasting Microsoft's multi-billionaire Paul Allen, who owns the venue.
