Amazon.com Following the demise of B*Witched, the Irish pop world was looking for a new young female to step into the fray. Enter Samantha Mumba, with her sparkling debut single "Gotta Tell You," which went straight to the upper echelons of the U.K. pop charts in the summer of 2000. Her debut album of the same name opens with that track, swiftly followed by her second single, "Body II Body" which came with David Bowie's seal of approval--he allowed her to heavily sample "Ashes to Ashes" for its central loop. The rest of the material is an even mix of sweet R&B and upbeat infectious pop, which beguile and enchant the listener. Gotta Tell You is an extremely confident debut, closing as it does with a rousing cover of the Motown standard "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"--a feat few girls Samantha's age could carry off with such aplomb. Debut albums rarely come this consummate. --Helen Marquis Reader Reviews Samantha Mumba the greatest new talent bringing us her unforgettable debut song and album "Gotta Tell You". Basically this album is a re-release of the first version except it has a new album cover and pictures, remixes of a few songs that are most likely future singles, along with a new song written by Diane Warren called "I Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty". Although this album is deprived of one track that was on its prior release, the remix of "baby come one over" and "The Boy" make up for it along side the wonderful ballad "Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty". The Purpose of this "extra tracks" album is that Samantha didn't think she had this right the first time around so she released the album again with a few minor touch ups so that we can get full enjoyment. When I seen this release I just had to buy it since the cover is so much more attractive than the cover on the prior release. Now I own both versions of the album, if you can find the first release of this album I suggest you by that as well. Track Listing: 1.) Gotta Tell You = This is the hit song that everyone should be aware of since it had great radio play and a great video to go along with it. This song is the least of the best of what Samantha has to offer, so if you think she's a one hit wonder than I'm sorry to tell you that she has other tracks on this album that live up to this one and are even better. 2.) Baby, Come Over (This Is Our Night) = Believe it or not, this track is actually a remix from its original version simply titled "Baby Come Over". This is her second hit single that you have been hearing all over the radio. If I wasn't telling you the truth, I wouldn't make the following statement, which is the fact that "Baby, Come Over" puts Christina Aguilera's "Come On Over Baby" to shame. 3.) The Boy (Remix) feat. WILL.I.AM of The Black Eyed Peas = For those of you who had the original release of the album had the original song so this track isn't really a remix to those of you who haven't heard the original. To tell you the truth, I didn't like the original of "The Boy" but with this hot new remix feat. the dude from Black Eyed Peas, it's just irresistible. I could me wrong but I believe this is going to be the third single, and its great because this song is a very R&B/Rap like song for all you peeps that are not that into bubble gum pop. 4.) Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty = Diane Warren had written another sure to be hit, I can tell you that right now. My favorite ballad on this album was "Never Meant To Be" until I heard this track on the re-release of the debut album. This is a really hot, positive ballad, that is catchy, it is nothing like that of Britney Spears yet it has the essence of what made us all fall in love with Britney Spears in the first place. 5.) Always Come Back To You Love = This is the hot international single that from what I know, made it all the way up to number 3 and possible higher in the near future. This song is great a sweat and has a bit of R&B flavor to it as well. There is also an import single of this song featuring remixes and the video, I recommend that you get it. 6.) Feelin' Is Right = This track has a mixture of a POP/R&B beat to it, and it is dance friendly. This is a great fun dance track and has great meaning to it. 7.) Body 2 Body = This was Samantha's very first international video and I'm afraid we are not gonna get it in the US. I think its great that Samantha Mumba is releasing different tracks all around the world this way she spreads different flavor. No! This is not a David Bowie cover, although Samantha did sample from David Bowie's "Ashes To Ashes". 8.) What's It Gonna Be = This sounds like a fun summer song, with a great tempo and fun beat along with catchy lyrics. Basically, this song is about Samantha wanting to know "what's it gonna be" because she wants to know the deal. 9.) Never Meant To Be = This is a beautiful ballad and it was my favorite until I heard "I Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty" but I think this one is more special because Samantha actually wrote it and the words are actually coming from her heart and mine. This ballad is really mature and I think it would be liked by a grown-up crowd as well as us teens. 10.) Isn't It Strange = This song is another fun song that you just can't resist because it has all those catchy lyrics. Samantha has very sweat vocals in this song and my favorite lyric is "It was right from the start Like a hit in the charts". 11.) Lately = Samantha Mumba did not write this song and it is a cover song from Divine. However, I like Samantha Mumba's version better and it should have been done this way in the first place. I hope I was helpful and convinced you into getting hooked up with this CD and Samantha Mumba so she will live on to bring us more great music. Believe me, if you miss out on buying this CD, this isn't the last your gonna see of Samantha Mumba, she's gonna be in movies and even is a few commercials and I'm sure every magazine is infested with pictures of her and if they aren't than they should be.
