It's rare to find an album that offers one enjoyable song after another. Usually you buy a cd for one song, maybe two, and end up listening to it less and less as time goes by. Alice Peacock, however, knew what she was doing when she assembled her self-titled album. When I listen to it, I listen to every song. The great thing about Peacock's music is that there is something in each song that will speak to you. It's in the lyrics, yes, but it's also in the way she puts it across. There is nothing flashy about her voice, but it is honest and sweet. As lame as this might sound, listening to one of her songs is like listening to a friend who is relating a problem, a joy, a story. Admittedly, it took me some time to come to appreciate this album. I heard it a couple of times and thought it was good, but then something shifted in my life and I came to love it. It marks a time, a place and a person for me. It's like a memory now. When I listen to it I'll remember. What a wonderful quality for an album to have. I'm not a fan of Sheryl Crow. There are few female solo singers that do much of anything for me. I like singers that have character, something that sets them apart from everything else that is out there (Norah Jones is a good example), and Alice Peacock definitely fits the bill.
