Reader Reviews Dead is Dead is the fourth and final Pain Station album. I think Scott was still struggling with finding a separate direction for Pain Station and Converter, and I personally haven't been able to put a finger on what the theme or feel this album is. Though most of Dead is Dead can be described as minimalist EBM, this album is a bit more experimental than some of his earlier releases. Though some people don't care for Scott's distorted vocals, I think most will enjoy his vocals on the standout track "Suffocate". I also like "Sinking" and "I Think I Want To", which both blend angry whispered vocals (an effect that sounds like an individual is talking to himself) with some ambient electronics and drum beats. These three tracks are more likely appeal to EBM fans (especially early Dive). The rest of the album I'd consider a bit less accessible. I am OK with the rest of the tracks, but they are very slow paced! For example, I'd classify "Is It Time?" as slow power noise (yes, this is possible), a label I use for material from Converter or bands like Germany's Noisex or Belgium's Hypnoskull. Overall the album is better suited for background ambience, and I will not part with my copy. I'm going to recommend first trying out Pain Station's Disjointed and then Cold before considering Dead is Dead.
