All right now. There is no way in the world that this is a greatest hits compilation. NO WAY! To start things off it has no real sabbath material and there are lots of good ozzy songs that are missing and several not so good songs that are included. Well before I go off on a huge explanation on why this is trash here is an analysis of the entire album:1.Black Sabbath/War Pigs-Don't let the titles decieve you. THESE ARE DEMOS. They sound like trash. Ozzy sounds like he's drunk at the time, and the lyrics aren't even right. They should have put some REAL sabbath material on here instead of these disgraceful demos.2.Goodbye to romance/crazy train/mr.crowley:This is another one of my main problems with this albums. It focuses way to much on Blizzard Of Ozz.True Blizzard of Ozz was a good album but it does not deserve almost 25% of the entire greatest hits album. I would only have put Crazy Train. It's not just this album that focuses too much of Blizzard. Live And Loud had like 6 songs from Blizzard which is wrong. And the Randy Rhoads Tribute had the entire FREAKIN ALBUM. Enough said about that.3.Over The Mountain-All Right Good Song, but I seriously think that Diary Of A Madman got seriously cheated. Only one song? They could have at least put Flying High Again, Diary Of A Madman, or even Believer on there. All of those songs are just as good and in some cases better than Over The Mountain4.Paranoid(Live)-Why The Live Version? The origional was better5.Bark At The Moon/Shot In The Dark/Crazy Babies-All good songs. Definetly should be on here. At least these albums weren't cheated6.No More Tears(Edit)-Why is this the edited version. There are no bad words. It cuts out perfectly good music. Almost 2 whole minutes. Huh!7.Mama, I'm Coming Home-Good song, no complaints8.I Don't Want To Change The World(Live)-This live version from live and loud is awful. The whole song is messed up. Even that little grunt at the beginning got fouled up9.I Just Want You-OK I have some news for you decent ozzy fans. OZZMOSIS WAS NOT THAT GOOD! That's real funny, naming the album after the process of water diffusing through an area of low concentration and replacing the s's with z's. By the way the song stinks10.Back On Earth-One question: How can this be a greatest hit if no one has ever heard it? It says so in the booklet that this was left over from the Ozzmosis session and had never been released. Makes no sense if you ask meSo all in all don't buy this its a waste of money. Your money would be more well spent if you bought every ozzy album. So spend wisely
When this disc came out in 1998, I purchased it the first day, completely unaware that it was a greatest hits compilation. When I brought it home and realized what I had done I was a little dissapointed. This was the first battle I would lose to the OZZY marketing demons known as Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, and their trained monkies John and Jack. The thing was, at the time, there was a video on MTV for the at the time new release BACK ON EARTH, which, I think, is actually a pretty good track. Apparently it was an unreleased track from 1995's OZZMOSIS, which, is an album that takes a lot of abuse from Ozzy fans, but I've always considered pretty close to classic status. The song in question here, has that sort of sound to it, a strange electronic metal sound.. I dig, I dig. But the rest is hits. The basics; CRAZY TRAIN, CRAZY BABIES, and BARK AT THE MOON. A few live cuts (eh) and some edited versions of songs you love. Nothing all that special, other than the two SABBATH demos at the beggining. No DIARY or anything really exciting. You may find BACK ON EARTH to be a curiosity, thats the only real reason I would pick this one up.
The rest of the album is exactly the same as on the full albums with the exeption of no more tears wich the cut, ran-together, shortened the solo, basicaly butchered tyhe song. anyway the demo of black sabbath is the best verion EVER. sabbath added another slow section with some geat lryics,"child calls out for it's mother, mother screaming in the fire" and the music is just so mutch rawer, the Butler's bass is overpowering and Tony's gutiar is a perfict combination, he has more of an edge to his distortion. if the original song was 5 out of 5 the demo is 8 out of 5, I dont lisen to the album version anymore. as for war pigs this version is known as "Walpurgis" meaning "Witches Sabbath" was supposed to be the version on the paranoid album and the album name but the record label first made sabbath change the name and lyrics of the song to "war pigs" due to the contoversy surrownding the band and having the album releace presided over by the head of the church of satian! next the album name was changed the title of the album to Paranoid without notifing the band, becuse it was thought to be more comerial. that is why on the album cover threr is a pig with a sword. any way . if the album version of war pigs is 5 of 5 the walpurgis version is 15 of 5. buy the this album for the two above mentioned songs both are in the best 5 songs ever recorded- which only the demo verions are the album versions is somewhere around 20 or so.
OZZY OSBOURNE-THE OZZMAN COMETH: Let's forget for a moment (if the media will allow it) Ozzy the surprise TV star of an un-"reality" program in which he sits on his fat keister and collects seven figure paychecks for forgetting things my 88 year old Granddad couldn't, while mumbling in an accent so thick and riddled with bleeped out expletives you need subtitles to follow along. Am I the only idiot out there that doesn't subsribe to the theory that musically "Ozzy is God", and not merely "The Prince of Dorkness"? THE OZZMAN COMETH is a collection of Beezle-Boob's so-called career highs (I'll skip the easy joke), mostly focusing on his post-Sabbath output (only a live PARANOID and alternate takes on two other oldies here). The only truly "scarey" thing about Ozzy is his flat, colorless off-key caterwauling and unconvincing (though obviously lucrative) "The Devil Made Me Do It" schtick. From the Randy Rhoads-propelled early hits CRAZY TRAIN and MR. CROWLEY, admittedly his best work, to later keyboard-intrusive dreck like MAMA I'M COMING HOME (What? No IF I CLOSE MY EYES FOREVER, with Lita Ford's Cher to Ozzy's Sonny?), there is nothing here to convince the discerning listener that horror-meisters Alice Cooper and Roky Erickson haven't done it all better and with at least a grasp on harmony. Ozzy has bitten off some canny career chunks, from small critters' heads to Snoozefest to MTV's OZZY & SHARON-ETTE, but as far as actual MUSIC is concerned, he mostly just bites. RATING: TWO EYELINER PENCILS
I love Ozzy's music but like everyone I must ask what happen to most of the Black Sabbath music. This hits album covers Ozzy's career since going solo. So you don't get real tracks from sabbath. But that still dosn't mean that you can't buy this collection of hits. All of Ozzy's songs are on here like Crazy Train and No More Tears. It's this collection that shows you why Ozzy is one of the best frontmen in metal. Without Ozzy man where would metal be today. If your barley getting into metal or Ozzy this isn't a bad way to start. But I recommend getting all of the Sabbath records first or the first albums from Ozzy.
