This is an interesting album. Zakk gets less freedom, Ozzy brings in a lot of people to help write the songs, there are 6 ballads and the 4 songs that aren't ballads are very heavy and there are a lot of synths on this album. Now Ozzy has used a lot synthesizers in his music since 1983 but this album has by far the most synths in it. Anyway here's my review. 1.Perry Mason- 10/10 A great song. The bass and synth intro is awesome and the opening guitar riff is great too. Zakk's tone is heavy as hell and the song has plenty of pinch harmonics. The melodic chorus is great too. The bridge is catchy and Zakk's solo is excellent and has plenty of bluesy bends and shred lines. A cool heavy song with plenty of hooks. 2.I Just Want You- 10/10 A great power ballad with a great catchy riff and some cool synths. The chorus is good but the bridge is even better. A cool solo by Zakk too. 3.Ghost Behind My Eyes- 5/10 A boring power ballad. The music is melodic but Ozzy's vocals don't sound that good. A pretty boring and generic song. A filler that I skip everytime I listen to this album. 4.Thunder Underground- 10/10 An awesome riff that is heavy as hell and great vocals by Ozzy. The chorus and bridge are excellent and Zakk's solo is excellent. One of the heaviest Ozzy songs. This song sounds like Black Sabbath. 5.See You on the Other Side- 10/10 Another great power ballad. The softer part is great and so is the chorus. he guitar tone is excellent and the synths work well too. A great melodic chorus too. 6.Tomorrow- 10/10 One of the best songs on the album. This song starts off with a great soft dark intro. Ozzy's vocals are excellent too. The heavy part is awesome too. The chorus is great and Zakk's heavy riff is great. The synths are cool too. A cool bridge and a great solo with a lot of feeling and some good shredding too. Probably the best song on the album. 7.Denial- 6/10 Another boring ballad with a lot synths. Nothing interesting here execpt the bridge and the solo. This is a filler. 8.My Little Man- 6/10 Another boring sappy ballad. The only interesting parts in this song are the sitar and Zakk's solo. Ozzy wrote this with Steve Vai back when Steve was in the band in 93' or 94'. Another filler. 9.My Jekyll Doesn't Hide- 8.5/10 A good heavy rocker with a great bridge and chorus. The riff and solo are excellent too. Not a classic but an enjoyable song anyway. 10.Old L.A. Tonight- 10/10 A great ballad. Ozzy's vocals are excellent and the song is very well written. This is the 6th ballad and one of the better ballads on the album. Zakk's solo is filled with emotion and sounds like his solos on No More Tears. For many years I hated this album. But it grew on me and it is a good album even if it there are many fillers. There are too many ballads and Zakk's solos aren't as good as the first 2 albums he did but if you hated this album at first go back and try to appreciate it for what it is. More good things about this album are the rythym section with legend Geezer Butler on bass and the great Deen Castronovo on drums. The album doesn't compare to the albums Ozzy did from 1980-1991. All Ozzy fans should find something to like about this album even if the sound is modern.
