Bark at the Moon Remastered

Reader Reviews
The first studio album following Randy Rhoads' tragic death. We find Ozzy a little confused at what he's doing, but otherwise slightly coherent. Enter San Diego wunderpunk Jake E. Lee on guitar, original Blizzard bassist Bob Daisley, Blizzard keyboardist Don Airey, and drummer Tommy Aldridge's first appearance on an Ozzy studio effort. The song selection is a bit schitzophrenic in its array going from the bone-crunching Bark At The moon into the depressed defiance of You're No Different to the tongue in cheek (literrally) sexual innuendos of Now You See It, Now You Don't then back to the staight metal of Rock & Roll Rebel. That was side one as the licorice pizzas used to turn. Side two was equally strange with the monks-in-mourning opening of Center Of Eternity, to the blazing boredom of So Tired, the filler-mediocrity of Slow Down and the final brilliance of Waiting For Darkness. A very topsy-turvy outing by Ozzy, but quite understandable. Less than a year after losing his best friend in a freak plane accident. Booze and dope and his new marriage to Sharon. There are mixed emotions in Ozzy's life and in his work as well. Jake E. Lee is solid, though overshadowed by the brilliance of Rhoads, and he will have to live with that for quite some time. Fans curse him with banners as if he purposely whacked Randy in order to break into the Ozzy clubhouse. Still a favorite of mine, reminds me of what it was like to be thirteen years old and totally into the madman of rock and roll.
