Reader Reviews For their first three albums, each time around this band would make their sound a little more experimental. Naveed was a very straight-forward grunge styled album, and it was okay. Clumsy added many new elements to their sound and the experimentation payed off, making it a much more interesting album. On their third album, "Happiness... Is Not A Fish You Can Catch" the band took the sound from "Clumsy" and made it a lot more intense, depressing, and dissonant. This makes for what is, in my opinion, theyre greatest album. This album is all very negative, depressing and horrifying. Lyrically its a masterpiece. Some of the lyrics are very disturbing. Take the haunting, gorgeous ballad, "Theif": "I don't want to understand this horror/There's a weight in your eyes I can't admit/Everybody ends up here in bottles/But the name tag's the last thing you wanted/As the world explodes we fall out of it/And we can't let go because this/Will not go away" or the title track: "I confess/Everyone is overweight/And I'm obsessed/Talking is just masturbating/Without the mess". Thats some crazy stuff. Every track on the cd is top-notch. "One Man Army", the albums first single, is a rocking song with an anthematic chorus. The title track is as haunting as it is disturbing, with amazing vocal performances. "Potato Girl" and "Blister" are depressing, wailing ballads. "Is Anybody Home?" is one of the best tracks on the album, and also one of the more uplifiting ones. "Waited" is an amazing song about being fooled and let down. "Lying Awake" and "Consequence of Laughing" are probably the two hardest songs on the album along with the first two tracks. However, these two don't appeal to me quite as much. "Annie" is about, I think, a schizofrenic girl who dreams that everyone is dead. With such a cute melody, the dark lyrics are very ironic. It's one of my favorite tracks. The real peak of the album, however, is the last track, "Stealing Babies." The first half of this song is amazing, alternating between a typical sounding our lady peace rocker and a creepy part with just piano and vocals. The second half of the song has ELVIN JONES on drums (WOAH!!) and the song breaks down into this carribean style thing and then builds back up for an amazing climax. The song then dives into freeform territory for a minute or so and it brings the album to a close. Listening to this album is like going on a journey. A journey deep into your deepest fears, depressions, and nightmares. Its a twisted and disturbing, yet catchy and beautiful ride. It's not for everyone, but Its honestly one of my favorite cds I own. I've owned it since it came out and I love it just as much now as I did then. Thats a lot of staying power.
