Beggars Banquet has more than just music. They range in music that is filled with more originality or an act of bringing something new to the table. You never hear any rage-tinged rock album on Beggars Banquet. So what would a band this adrenaline-injected be doing on Beggars Banquet? Oceansize's album opens with a rock hard "The Charm Offensive" that carried the title line, "everyone into position", while rocking you to last week. From here you can believe UK's Oceansize is trying hard to differ themselves from other bands trying to reach an epic note. And the song lasts 7:18 before hitting you with another one named "Heaven Alive". From here, you should be a little exhausted in the middle. Basically, all that is left to tell you about this 10-song album are it will give you the effect that a band is stomping on your ears for about 7 minutes straight into a song. Otherwise, you are likely to lose your attention, because the melodies are just so draining of your energy. Most of the time, the band plays an extended version of a song, and instead of easing you into the song and wowing you, the siren just screams at you till you are really to sleep through it. I'm just telling you this when "Music for a Nurse" is playing. The only song that sounds majestic enough to sit through without fidgeting in your seat is the overall dreamy "New Pin" and the apocalyptic "No Tomorrow". The only song that ever eases into the song anymore is the 9-minute epic "You Can't Keep A Bad Man Down". "Ornament/The Last Wrongs" is just incredibly messy for an ending to an already tiring album, until it winds down and plans to knock you from the back like a post-rock piece...twice. After that, you just want to throttle them. But also, after that, Oceansize safely leads you out of the door of the album. Now, I have heard my share of rock albums, including a few progressive albums. And perhaps I am really missing the point about this album. Everyone Into Position may also end up being a Litmus Test of what I know about Oceansize's talent and, well, ocean-sized effort into the album. Oceansize does not have to be different, yes. Embrace is an anthemic band that doesn't span far from being an elevated Keane. This band can be lined up to any other band from Wind-Up that is not Creed or Evanescence. This album brings the punches, the pain, and the bright aura like a rock album should, but most of the way, it is just hard to pay attention when most of the vocals are practically buried under a sea of wired annihilation.
