As we have all learned, combining tremendous Jazz talent does not always result in a tremendous Jazz album. However, Jacky and Stefon have recorded a tremendous album with "Kindred." As a previous reviewer mentioned, seeing these two live makes all the difference. With that in mind, I can only hope that Blue Note Will record a live album with this duo. And I can only hope that Blue Note won't screw it up as they have done with so many live recordings. Right out of the blocks, "My Foolish Heart" reveals this duo's level of intensity and synergy which is carried throughout the album. Their interpretations of "John's Abbey," "Summertime" and "What Is This Thing.." are all great... along with some groovy originals. Again, you must see these guys live (which would be very unlikely at this point) or on their own. Jacky seems to be at the Vanguard every few months and Stefon is all over. (Seeing Stefon make his transition from marimba to vibes at the speed of light is unreal.) Enjoy.
