This is a wonderful, magnificent, masterful piece of work. Easily the best album by any former Beatle since John Lennon's "Walls and Bridges". Beautiful, captivating, well developed melodies. Strong, meaningful (and often humorous) lyrics. The singing impassioned (though, understandably, occasionally weak). Sublime, fluid slide playing (and plenty of that guitar!). Stuck Inside a Cloud, in particular, is simply songwriting and recording of the highest calibre. Heartbreakingly beautiful with one of the most gorgeous, haunting melodies I've heard in ages and a devastating guitar solo. Given the context in which much of this album was recorded, one would have expected this album to be a downer. Not at all. It has a positive, fun energy to it, even in the songs that deal with the fate that George had been served. Without question this is among the top ten best albums from a solo Beatle. This will probably be the last great album by a Beatle. (I've given up on Paul.) I wasn't expecting anything this good from any of them at this point so the release of this album was a real treat. Somehow, they always managed to surprise us. A worthy finale. This is highly recommend this to everyone, even to casual Harrison fans. (It's far, far better than any of his other post-"Material World" albums.) I just wish more attention had been paid to this when it was initially released because it SHOULD have been a big hit. (You just don't hear songwriting as good as "Stuck Inside a Cloud" these days.) If this album had been released, say, in May, 1974, instead of November, 2002, it would easily have been a #1 for several weeks. ("Any Road" would have made a GREAT mid-70's summertime single.) Ah, well. That's alright . . . we true GH fans can consider this his special final gift for us. We know. Thank you so much George.
