Reader Reviews Gene Vincent should have been as popular as Elvis but he had a bad, pock-marked head and was part cripple. That's probably why he had to hire a couple of guys to just stand either side of him shaking their legs and clapping their hands. Yeah, the truth hurts, baby.... but political correctness isn't going to change the sad facts. If he could have moved and looked like Vince Taylor...a decent enough Gene Vincent clone... he probably would have been a dangerous rival for Mr. Presley. Movement of one's hips was very important in the early days of rock'n'roll. It went with the territory. Elvis was desexed, degutted and sanitized by Hollywood but Gene stayed true to his Rock'n'roll heart....probably because nobody would give him a movie contract. God bless him. The man deserves to be heard and recognized as a pioneer as well as one of the original "kings" of rock'n'roll. Just like Little Richard and Lester Lanin, I don't think Gene ever made a "bad" record. He made a couple of "stinkers" though.
