This CD is essentially identical to Ibrahim Ferrer's CD entitled "Tierra Caliente" (which I have already reviewed). But since I just can't get enough of Ibrahim Ferrer, I've bought them both!!! Fans of the Buena Vista Social Club CD know Ibrahim Ferrer, and those familiar with the documentary film by the same name are more familiar still with the slender seventy-something Cuban singer with the soft, passionate voice. (Both the CD and the DVD come with my very highest recommendation!!!) To the uninitiated, I can best and most easily describe the music as jazz (because it is, at times, so improvisational and given to "jamming") with a distictly Cuban beat. Ferrer's style of lyrical improvisation is impeccable in those songs which provide the vehicle. The music transends all language barriers with its passion and "joie de vivre". And the more you learn about its background, the more you are sure to love it, as I do. This is some of the best music from one of the richest musical sources on earth. There is nothing quite like the fusion of African & Spanish sounds and rythms that is Cuba's deliciously unique music.
