Reader Reviews I saw Filter and Prong open up for Ozzy back in '96 ('97?). Hey Man, Nice Shot was getting all kinds of airplay, and since they weren't too bad in concert, I figured that I'd take a chance on the CD... So much for that money... What are the odds that the song that gets the airplay is the only good song on the album? Well that is the case with Short Bus. (see my review of Seether Karma and Effect for another example). The major problem with Filter is that they just don't distinguish themselves. Hey Man, Nice Shot is decent, but other then that none of the other songs really leap out at you. Their lyrics are nowhere near as good as Stabbing Westward's, and the music is pretty watered down. The inner sleeve of the CD has a statement from the band alluding to the 'certain subset of musicians' who think that "'electronic" music' implies a lack of creativity. It almost seems like they made this album with a chip on their shoulder, not realizing that listeners are open to 'electronics', as long as they are used well and are accompanied by great lyrics. I wish I could recommend this cd, but I can't. Spend your money on a NIN or Stabbing Westward CD instead.
