In my never ending search for the perfect album, I purchased EELS "Blinking Lights and other Revelations" and "Daisies of the Galaxy", which in a way indicates that I been going through my EELS phase. It all started when I bought "Electro Shock Blues" which I found riveting all around. Well, this time around I found "Blinking Lights...," too long to be able to maintain an acceptable degree of excellence. Which is another way to say Boring. Needless pursuit of lamentations of the same theme. Yes, most talented artists reach the highest or the lowest emotionally and from there they come out with their songs. But the album kept going so long that I finally had time to ponder on the vocals and discover a somewhat limited vocal skill. It is a somber effort and EELS become a part of a long chain of similar thematic albums. I found "Daisies for the Galaxy" the better of the two. I thought EELS could do no wrong but I guess once I became compulsive about owning their albums I paid the price of admission. Yes he is talented, oh yes they can play some mind altering grooves when he wants to "kick it in" but all this reflections on sad things with a voice that borders on deppresive tones make me want to go out for Double Hot Fudge Sundae even though I am a diabetic. No disrespect intended for what is certainly a great band but the media once again and why not? the many positive reviews on Amazon.com made me think this was the album to end all albums and I was sadly mistaken. Hey, after all it is only money, right? Three stars and a half and please EELS, Rock Me Don't Drop Me!!!
