Teach Children to Worship Import

A pretty good black metal cover album., July 24, 2000
One of Sweden's finest have jumped on the cover song band-wagon. The first track is an original and, by far, it's mid-paced tempo makes it the weakest track on this cd. The next track is a well done cover of a King Diamond track (although the king is still far superior). After the trial, Dark Funeral covers the track "Seasons in the Abyss" by Slayer. The vocals on this cover I find superior to Araya's, but the drumming on it doesn't hold a candle to Lombardo's. The next track, "Remeber the Fallen", is a Sodom cover (one of the forefathers of black metal). The cd is rounded-off with an excellent cover of Dead-era Mayhem. This track is well worth shelling out the import price because it's a great deal cheaper than buying all those tribute cds (especially the very mediocre Slayer tribute cd this track appeared on).

This masterpeice shows what can happen when some devil crazed maniacs pay homage to their metal heros. Much like Marduk's "Glorification" (and later "Obediance" ep), this is not what you think. Some idiot reviewed this ep as "pointless" because it lacks "atmosphere". Well DUH! Dark Funeral is NOT an "atmospheric" black metal band; I mean, the dude should have noted that the title of this ep is "Teach Your Children to Worship Satan", which an atmospheric metal band would never have used. The Slayer cover alone is worht the price of this masterpiece.

praise satan...hahahaha, August 12, 2000
all this CD is, is fast-paced tracks paying homage to satan. as i'm sure you can tell by the title. there is very little atmosphere, and the king diamond cover sounds worse thatn the original, a lot worse. i find it rather pointless. but if you like that kind of thing, like satyricon, mayhem, immortal, etc. it's definitely for you. but fans of black metal with atmosphere should definitley pass this up.

Awesome cover album!, July 23, 2000
Dark Funeral shows that they can pull off some of the best cover work of any band out there(except Type O Negative!) The first track is an original from their upcoming album. Sadly, it seems that they haven't changed much from previous albums. Not to say that's bad, but I was hoping they weren't going to come out with another "Secret of the Black Arts", which is what this sounded like it came from(SotBA was a good album, but we don't need more than one). The King Diamond cover, "The Trial" from "The Eye" is an excellent cover! Three vocal styles, low growl, screech, and high clear vocals all come together beautifully! The music is very tight, I couldn't say anything bad about this at all! The Slayer cover, "Dead Skin Mask" from "Seasons in the Abyss" takes one of the best intro's and makes it better, when it comes through at the beginning it just raises excitement once you hear the screech, the music was very tight, however the drummer is definately not as high quality as Slayer's drummer is. Mostly machine gun snare rolls, which isn't bad but I was expecting rolls all over the set like Slayer. Vocally it's great. The Sodom cover, "Remember the Fallen" is very tight vocally and musically, just straight up old-school black metal. Finally, the Mayhem cover, "Pagan Fears", is very good musically. Vocally there is no screeches at all, just normal level gruffness. The production didn't seem as good on this track as on the other 4, but that's true to old Mayhem so that's ok. Overall, a great album and if you like Dark Funeral overall and you want more of the same, you won't be dissappointed with the upcoming album!

Good CD but surprising, July 17, 2000
Reviewer: A music fan I've always thought that Dark Funeral was a good band. They are probably one of the most "evil" sounding bands around, and although it might take newcomers a while to hear the various complexities and layers in the songs, the wait is well worth it. What is surprising to me is that I find Dark Funeral is sounds even better when they play other peoples' songs then when they play their own, an example of such a song being Dead Skin Mask on this very CD. The music video is well worth the purchase, too. All in all, this CD is a good deal so you should buy it if you're into this kind of stuff.
