... the fact that this isn't all house remixes but this is still a good remix collection. While not up to the remix collections cds of Chaka Khan, Blondie or Jellybean but not as worthless as the Deboarh Cox or Amber ones this is a review of some older tracks done over by remixers other than Daft Dunk themselves. The selling point for me was the inclusion of the house mix for "Face To Face" that was number one on the club chart on Billboard. Plus the fact that this isn't a mixed cd is a major plus for me. Here is the track listing and times for each song. 1- Ouverture (2:41) 2- Aerodynamic (Daft Punk Remix) (6:10) 3- Harder Better Faster Stronger (Neptunes Mix) (5:11) 4- Face To Face (Cosmo Vitelli Remix) (4:54) 5- Phoenix (Basment Jaxx Mix) (7:52) 6- Digital Love (Boris Dlugosh Remix) (7:27) 7- Harder Better Faster Stronger (Jess & Crabbe Remix) (6:00) 8- Face To Face (Demon Remix) (Demon Remix) (6:59)- house!!! 9- Cresendolls (Laidback Luke Remix)(5:22) 10- Aerodynamic (Slum Village Mix) (3:36) 11- Too Long (Gonzales Version) (3:14) 12- Aerodynamic (7:47) 13- One More Time(Romananthony's Unpluuged) (3:39)- sounds like a lost Prince outtake. 14- Something About Us ( Love Theme From Interstella 5555) (2:14) Not a bad set of electro/house and acoustic mixes from the French dance act.
Daft Punk are quirky, and as such not everyone likes them, although they can often apriciate why other people do. Even their most commercially successful album Discovery wasn't a hugely accessable record.
This is the album for the people who either weren't sure about Daft Punk, or just never really got into them too much. Remixing various tracks (sometimes more than once) from Discovery a variety of DJ's and artists breathe that dancefloor flavour into Daft Punks work and manage to create something that complements the original album without feeling derivative.
Each mix brings something new to the original track, in some cases completely re-writing it. This is, from the start, pounding club friendly beats.
It's not for the died-hard fans, it's not really Daft Punk, but it is for those that want a great party CD that will kick off their weekend with pounding basslines, smooth synths, a dash of hip-hop, and that distilled friday night feeling.
In short: highly recomended, as long as you aren't expecting the usual Daft Punk style. A great party CD.
I could practically count the tracks I liked on this album on one hand. Although I do agree with some of the reviewers here, "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" was one of the better tracks because I like the Neptunes. I also like the "Aerodynamic" remix by Slum Village. My favorite track of all time? "Aerodynamite"!
The tracks that actually made me mad was "Crescendolls", the slow version of "Too Long", and the slow version of "One More Time". I liked them on Discovery, and to hear it on this album made me sick to my stomach. I think the saying, "Often imitated, never duplicated" goes with these tracks, though they didn't try to "duplicate." And "Something About Us"? They didn't even have to touch it. It was fine the way it was. They had some okay remixes, but it lost steam as it went on.
There's a reason why some songs are made available only over the Internet, and it's not because they're too good for ordinary record buyers. These guest remixes might have made for nice freebies , but they don't add up to much of an album. While the 2001 source record, Discovery, struck a balance between dance-floor mechanics and prog-disco kitsch, the remixers here opt for either/or, so Boris Dlugosch's "Digital Love" is humdrum house and Gonzales's "Too Long" is fantastic gimmickry. Only the Neptunes stand between Daft Club and utter irrelevance. They reconstitute "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" as offbeat digital soul built around a nagging synth line and Pharrell Williams's great falsetto. Not for the first time, they're easily the best thing about a good record.
I am just a biggest fan of Daft Punk since their release of Homework I have been hipnotized by their beat, music and lyrics. Simply the best Electro Pop group ever, this Album contains cool Remixes from their Discovery Album, and don't miss their new Album Human After All that will be release in a few days. This group has been growing with the pass of time and if you like Electronic music you shouldn't hesitate on Buying any of the CD's, alsoooo buy the Interstella 5555 DVD it is sooo cool to see all the animation and the Discovery CD on Video.
daft punk ARE my favourite dJs of all time... they come out of nowhere and have infectious songs that you canno get out of the head... this LP is just a remix album of their 2001 classic DISCOVERY. but it does nothing for me really....
i am feelin the 'aerodynamik' (daft punk remix)....
I LOVE THE NEPTUNES but, their remix to one of my favourite songs of all time 'harder better faster stronger' is just terrible.... they should have never touched it at all...sorry neptunes...the other remix by jess& crabbe us way better.
this album should have had more songs from their album... they are missing 'superheros', 'queis-vous', and 'voyager' some of the best tracks on the DISCOVERY album.....
this album has the same song just remix... aerodynamik has 3 remixes (2 too many), they should have left 'something about us' ALONE....
i love daft punk but please come with new material so i could forgive you for this dreadful piece...
