I was a huge Bananarama fan back in the late 80s. I remember I had their 1987 "Wow" album on tape, and I used to listen to it all the time, until it finally wore out. After that I tried to find it on CD but it was already out of print. Hence I bought "Greatest hits collection", which features all their hits from "Wow" plus many others. This album has been an all-time favorite of mine, and now, with this re-issue, it is better than ever! THe remastered sound sounds great, and now it is no longer necessary to turn up the volume on your stereo in order to listen to the songs properly. Besides the better sound, several new cuts have also been included, which makes this album even more complete. There are two 12" versions of "Venus" and "Love in the first degree", their best songs, plus "Help" and "Preacher man", their 1991 comeback hit previously unavailable on any compilation album. If you are a Bananarama enthusiast and are looking to buy a CD that collects their body of work in a complete fashion, you have to buy this new remastered edition of "Greatest hits collection". One added bonus is that the liner notes have been fully restored, and features the girls' comments on each of the singles they released, as well as highest chart position and photographs of each single's LP cover. This art work alone is worth the money. But if you are looking for a more complete retrospective of their work, you should check out the equallly awesome "Very Best of Bananarama", which, besides featuring many of the tracks on this album, also includes several singles from their 1991 "Pop Life" LP and their 1993 "Please yourself" LP. However, be warned that the liner notes in this edition is not complete and only a list of the songs is included. Therefore, take your pick between these two greatest hits compilations. I personally like this one better because it is a better overall package, with all of their best songs. Many of their singles post-1988 are part of their best work.
The import version of Bananrama's Greatest Hits is slightly different than the original U.S. release. This version has a few extra tracks and doesn't include the cover of the Beatles song "Help." Banarama's Greatest Hits covers most of their popular singles from the first 10 years of their career. I would have liked to see less popular songs like "More Than Physical" make the track list but maybe one day their will be a Bananarama box set or something. But this set is awesome because it includes on of my favorite Bananarama songs "Rough Justice." The set opens with the mid 80's hit "Venus." Other popular songs on the set include "Cruel Summer," "I Heard A Rumor," and "Robert Deniro's Waiting." If you bought the U.S. version the import is worth checking out for the additional songs. The remixes are pretty cool.
Bananarama were one of the most successful British pop groups of the eighties, having a long string of hits with the production team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. SAW have their critics (and I'm not keen on some of the stuff they produced) but Bananarama were better than most of the other acts they produced. So while their music is lightweight, it is enjoyable and makes great party music.
Bananarama made the top five in the UK with eight different singles while two others made the UK top ten. Two of these (Help / Beatles and Venus / Shocking blue) were covers, the others being It ain't what you do, Really saying something, Shy boy, Na na hey hey kiss him goodbye, Cruel summer, Robert De Niro's waiting, Love in the first degree and I want you back.
My favorite song here is Love in the first degree, which is completely different from the Alabama song with the same title. Similarly, I want you back (another original song) is different from the Jacksons' song, though both were in the UK charts at the same time, the Jacksons' song having been re-mixed.
This compilation contains all their top ten hits and several of their lesser hits including Nathan Jones, I heard a rumour, I can't help it and Preacher man, all of which made the UK top twenty.

avoid these rotten bananas, June 17, 2004
Reviewer: A music fan i would strongly plead with you to stay far away from this terrible album. i am convinced this has to be one of the lousiest compilations to be ever made by this outdated eighties band.songs like venus ,love in the first degree and shy boy sound dated and dreadful.avoid this stupid cd like the plague.my rating would be minus 10 stars.
Look, let me get something straight.....I have heard nothing like this atleast from the Indian standpoint and Bananarama will always hold the top most position......I am so sorry that most Indian popsters cannot even sing or produce music even half of what Bananarama can! That's a FACT!! Let's face the truth......If you know what I really mean.....Try to look yourself from the rear end..........that's the way Indian.......most (especially girl bands sound)OOOOps ,not my tastes at all.....I would grade them not even a Zero................So sorry.....Bananarama are REAL STUFF and Quality music.....I LOVE them and so will Generations to come.I think if Bananarama is considered Cheesy......well I consider our own girly band totally stupid and idiotic and even cheesier..........ha ha.I don't wanna mention names.I would love to see these Banana girls come back......Wish they make a tour of India......let our Indian counterparts have a taste of them..........LIVE!!!.............ha ha ha!!!Just wait.Bananarama please teach our girls the real knack of "GIRL POWER"........they have so much to learn.
