This second album from the Poole sisters, Karen and Shelley, never fails to impress. It manages to expand on the formula that made them successful with their first album whilst also branching out into new territory. It's a great deal more acoustic too, making it a very different but equally fantastic album. Steering away from the strong feelings evident on 'Alisha Rules The World', this has a few quiet moments with ballads that are not only fresh but also thankfully devoid of any sugar-sweetness. Of the calmer songs, 'The Incidentals', their first single from the album, is probably the best. In this release we see the Poole sisters take down their walls. You get the feeling that this album was produced when the sisters were in a happy mood. It's quiet and contemplative. That's not to say, however, that there aren't the occassional fast songs which have just as much bite to them as the best tracks from 'Alisha Rules The World'. Such songs, like 'Air And Angels' and the teasing 'Are You Jealous' are catchy and original. Underneath the happy exterior of songs like 'The Incidentals', you begin to get the feeling that this isn't simply a perfect picture of happiness. On the contrary, this album is full of those tiny little niggles that tear you up in your happiest moments, which is clear in songs like 'Resistor', about giving in too much. You get the feeling that these girls have gone through rough times and it's all laid out in front of us. Indeed, there are some songs which are even disquieting, especially 'Me And The Dolphins' and the fact that the last track (excepting the bonuses) is labelled 'Outta These Clouds' is very telling. All in all, this is not only a superbly catchy album but also an intelligent one which gives its listener a tangible feel of Karen and Shelley. In short, it is genius.
