Reader Reviews Ignore everyone that doesn't say Black Sails in the Sunset is AFI's best album, because they obviously have never heard it. This really is AFI's best album in every way and there isn't one bad song in the whole group. 1.Strength Through Wounding: This is the intro. and IMO it's the best intro. AFI has ever come up with. It starts with a really fast drum beat, then a chant! Songs that include chants are awesome and this is a great way to start the album. 10/10 2.Porphyria Cutanea Tarda: The next three songs are all about vampires (each song name is a Latin term for vampirism). Anyway, this is a really fast song that leads right into the next. The chorus has semi-chanting also! 8/10 3.Exsanguination: The second vampire song is even better than the first and has a better chorus. It starts slow then gets fast. 9/10 4.Malleus Maleficarum: The third vampire song seems to have more balance between slow and fast parts than the first two. It ends with Davey (AFI's singer) screaming "Ashes Fall and I'm Rising Up Again!!!" which is really catchy. 9/10 5.Narrative of Soul Against Soul: Even if you want to call this the low point of the album, it's still better than half of "The Art of Drowning" and it's still a great song. The chorus is ok for this one. 7/10 6.Clove Smoke Catharsis: This is the best slow song (if you want to call it that) that AFI has ever made. An easy 10/10 7.The Prayer Position: Another great fast song. This is a favorite among AFI fans. 10/10 8.No Poetic Device: This song is underrated since it gets overshadowed by the next track. Starts fast and keeps a great pace the whole song. 9/10 The track order on the CD face and packaging is wrong, I put the corrct order. 9.The Last Kiss: Another highlight for this album. Has a great chorus and some pretty dark lyrics. 10/10 10.Weathered Tome: Interesting trivia, the Offspring's lead singer contributes to the "Whooaa" at the beginning and end of the song. This is the other low point on the album (but still really good). 7/10 11.At A Glance: Starts fast, keeps a good pace with a catchy chorus, then gets really sad and depressing. This one is also underrated because of the track that follows it. 10/10 12.God Called In Sick Today: As some put it, "the best song AFI has ever made." I prefer Clove Smoke Catharsis as a slow song, but this one is still great. "Ends" the album on a low note cause it's a sad song. There's also a hidden track: 13.Midnight Song: THIS is the best song AFI has ever made. It has the best chorus of any song ever and includes a gothic whispering part that makes this one of the darkest tracks on the album. 10/10 By the way, there's a bonus track that isn't on the CD version of the album called "Lower It." It's a 10/10 and definately worth a download. So there you have it, this is the best album AFI has ever made and I don't think they will ever be able to top this one.
